Materials and Management

This module focused on planting and materials, aiming to develop an understanding of the principles and processes involved in the key ‘technical’ factors influencing the design of hard and soft landscape..

Planting and construction involved native tree identification, development of a palette of ornamental plants and designer case studies. We visited sites to learn first hand about the issues involved in detailing landscape, hard and soft in different contexts and a plant nursery to hear about plant propagation and specification. Levels gradients focused on their importance to both satisfactory and suitable detailing and drainage.

We were required to apply the knowledge gained in the module to a design for an area of hard and soft landscape within the University Landscape Resource Centre LRC).
