Public Realm Design: Bradford

As a continuation of the design for the Cultural Quarter, Bradford, this module provided the opportunity to select and develop a detailed landscape design for an area within larger plan.

My chosen area was a threshold containing a historic statue of Richard Oastler, a 19th Century campaigner for a minimum age and maximum hours for children employed in the weaving mills. The existing site was a small pedestrian zone with prominent hardscape, lacking vegetation and biodiversity.

My aim was to create an open green space providing social and recreational opportunities, including exploration and play for children and improving disability access. I also sought to increase biodiversity through my planting design.
