The International Garden Festival of Ponte de Lima: Jardin da Mora.
The International Garden Festival of Ponte de Lima is an annual event running between May and October. The gardens selection is subject to evaluation of the garden design proposals by a jury. The competition web site may be accessed at: Editions | International Garden Festival (cm-pontedelima.pt).
I was part of a team of 4 students from Leeds Beckett University who submitted a design for the 2024 festival on the theme of "the imaginary in the art of the garden". Our garden was inspired by the old Ponte de Lima tale called “A mal degolada”, a tale of forbidden love between a Christian man and a Moorish woman. To develop the theme of imaginary gardens we sought to capture the experience and emotions of the encounter between the lovers.
